Royse City will light its Christmas tree on Tuesday, December 1, and hold its Christmas Parade of Lights on Saturday, December 12. Both start at 6:30 p.m. Both happen downtown. The places to get coffee before, dinner during and a pint after are all on the same short stretch of East Main Street, between the 101 and 232 addresses. Once that stretch is your base, December downtown takes very little planning.
Downtown's holiday season is anchored at Cookston Court, 111 E. Main St., where the city holds its Christmas Tree Lighting. Everything else in this post sits on either side of it:
Four of these, Anvil Brewing No. 2, Luigi's Italian Café, Main Street Emporium and Renew Coffee, appear on the city's September 2026 restaurant inspection report. So the food and drink side of this stretch is current, not a list carried over from an old directory.
Taken together, the list explains why both holiday nights work so well downtown. The tree is at 111, and everything you might want before or after it is within the 100 and 200 blocks of the same street.
The city's calendar listing sets the Christmas Tree Lighting for Tuesday, December 1, 2026, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Cookston Court, with entertainment by RCISD choirs. The detailed listing runs from 6:30 to 7 p.m. That makes this a short event, which matters on a Tuesday when the choir kids still have school the next morning.
The tree is large. When the city listed the 2024 lighting, it described the downtown tree as 30 feet tall.
Since the lighting itself is short, the evening is built around what's nearby. Coffee at Renew before the choirs start is two blocks of walking at most. Dinner at Luigi's afterward is on the same side of downtown. Luigi's takes reservations, which helps on a night when a crowd has just gathered a short walk away.
The second night is bigger, and this year it has a new theme. The Royse City Herald-Banner reports that the 2026 Christmas Parade of Lights starts at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, in downtown Royse City. Its theme, "Red Lights and Blue," gives the parade a patriotic twist in honor of America's 250th anniversary. Entries are asked to decorate in red, white and blue. The Herald-Banner lists floats, trucks, trailers, walking groups, first responders and holiday characters as possible entries.
Registration is free, and Royse City Main Street reviews and approves every entry. Main Street's parade campaign page lists the same date and theme for anyone signing up a business, church group or family float.
The parade's start and end points have changed between years, and past routes have both run along Main Street/SH 66.
| Year | Start / staging | Path | End |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 | Davis Elementary on FM 1777 | FM 1777 onto State Highway 66 West | Near Erby Campbell Blvd. |
| Earlier year | Ouida Baley Middle School; entries lined up along FM 1777 | South on Main Street/SH 66 through downtown | North Houston Street near Ronnie's Dry Clean Center |
The 2025 listing told spectators to expect crowds along Main Street and set the parade from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The earlier route, described in a Herald-Banner parade preview, also ran south on Main Street/SH 66 through downtown. Staging moved from a middle school to an elementary school, and the end point moved from Houston Street to Erby Campbell Blvd. Both routes still passed through downtown on Main Street.
For 2025, the city also told participants they would get an assigned drop-off location for safety and should confirm it with their float coordinator. If you're entering a float this year, your coordinator is still the person to ask about staging. If you're watching, the 2026 details will be on the City of Royse City calendar, the same place the 2025 route was posted.
Royse City Main Street also runs a Christmas window-decorating contest for businesses in the Main Street District. Its theme is "Everyone's Santa." Judging happens the Friday morning before the parade, and the winner is announced during the parade.
That timing helps parade-goers. By Saturday night, the windows have already been judged, so anyone who comes downtown early has time to look at them before the floats arrive. Several of the places a family might stop for food, coffee or gifts on parade night are on the 100 and 200 blocks of East Main.
Here is one way to set up December downtown using only the stretch above:
